The exhibition From Model to Masterpiece: Tracing the Legacy of Ironed Paper Models presents 72 pieces/sets of ironed paper models (tangyang) and related artifacts from the collections of the Palace Museum and the Memorial Hall of the Society for Research in Chinese Architecture at the School of Architecture at Tsinghua University, along with six contemporary models crafted using varied techniques.
Divided into three sections, the exhibition mainly features tangyang artifacts from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) to reveal how models and drawings once played a vital role in bridging design, approval and construction as well as article making. This illuminates the refined aesthetics of traditional Chinese architecture and daily life, as well as the enduring wisdom and techniques of Chinese craftsmanship.
