Pyramidal roof

Updated: Aug 28, 2025

Buildings with pyramidal roofs, where the slopes converge at the top to form a pointed tip, are common in traditional Chinese architecture.

Many garden pavilions – triangular, rectangular, pentagonal, hexagonal, octagonal, or circular in plan – are topped with pyramidal roofs. Such roofs are also frequently found on palace and temple structures.

At Prince Kung's Palace Museum, the Pavilion of Deep Autumn is an example of an octagonal building with a pyramidal roof.
