Prince Kung's Palace Museum launched its innovative website virutal tour feature on Monday afternoon, marking a significant step in its digital outreach.
The launch ceremony, held at the museum's research and education base, brought together more than 50 attendees, including director Feng Nai'en, deputy director Su Ning, museum staff, social media followers and media representatives.
Director Feng emphasized the virtual tour as a key initiative in line with China's digital development goals. Utilizing 360-degree digital imaging technology and a meticulously drawn map based on the historical architectural model of the palace, the system provides a highly accurate digital representation of the museum. It integrates panoramic views, digital artifacts, period halls, and both temporary and permanent exhibitions, offering a comprehensive digital experience of the museum's offerings.
Four themed virtual tours, guided by the museum's endearing "Xiaofu Family" mascots, provide intelligent navigation and engaging knowledge presentations to meet diverse audience needs.
The platform features a unique "seasonal transitions" function, allowing users to explore the palace throughout the year. Enhancing the immersive experience, the online exploration is accompanied by the enchanting Beijing folk ballad Chaqu Opera tune, with lyrics penned by Pu Xinyu (1896-1963), the last owner of the mansion.
Available in both Chinese and English, the platform invites both domestic and international visitors to embark on an immersive virtual journey through this Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) royal residence.
The launch event also featured a variety of engaging cultural activities, including a stamp rally, a museum knowledge contest, and an on-site exploration of the virtual tour routes, providing a rich and interactive experience for all participants.
