In Qing Dynasty princely mansions, a shrine was invariably built along the main axis. These sacred spaces were dedicated to Shamanistic rituals, a tradition deeply rooted in Manchu culture. After the Qing court settled in Beijing, Shamanic ceremonies became a significant part of imperial court rituals. The Kunning Palace (Palace of Earthly Tranquility) within the Forbidden City served as the imperial model for these shrines. Princely weddings were traditionally held in the eastern chamber of the shrine.
