Baoguang Hall served as Prince Kung Yixin's private reception area. The name plaque above the door, a personal gift from Emperor Xianfeng (r. 1851-1861), adds to the hall's prestige. Prince Kung Yixin himself wrote an inscription to commemorate this special place. It was in Baoguang Hall that Empress Dowager Cixi and Emperor Guangxu (r. 1875-1908) made arrangements for Prince Kung's funeral.
The various sections of Baoguang Hall are interconnected by a continuous corridor, creating a unique and intimate atmosphere. This courtyard is the only one in the entire mansion entirely enclosed by a corridor.
