The Chamber of Mental Purification, also known as the Flower-Moon Exquisite Pavilion or the Crabapple Belvedere, was originally used as a summer study by the palace's owner. While the adjacent room to the east is still called the Treasured Simplicity Studio, the western annex, which was the Pavilion of Concealed Splendor, no longer exists.
In front of the pavilion stand several crabapple trees. Their variety is well known in Beijing as the "Western Mansion Crabapple".
