Inaugural writing contest receives 60,000 ICH-themed works

The award ceremony of the inaugural writing contest and music composition contest themed on intangible cultural heritage took place on Oct 9 in Prince Kung’s Palace Museum.

In his speech at the ceremony, Wang Chenyang, director of the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, acknowledged the powerful partnership between the twin hosts of the initiative - Prince Kung’s Palace Museum and China Literature, and extended his hope of promoting the inheritance and dissemination of the nation’s cultural legacy through digitalization, so as to further integrate traditional Chinese culture into modern life through new mediums like online literature.

Feng Nai’en, director of Prince Kung’s Palace Museum, said at the ceremony that words and music are instrumental in exploring new ways of demonstrating intangible cultural heritage to arouse young people’s interest.

Since the signing of strategic cooperation in 2022, the two sides have co-organized a series of activities. The first writing contest received a total of 63,974 works created by online writers, involving 127 intangible cultural heritage items, such as Peking Opera, woodcarving, papermaking, lion dance and more. I Never Intended to Become an Immortal won the first prize; Blazing Moonlight, A Fortune in a Paper and The Splendor of the Ming Dynasty won the second prize; A Thousand Years in a Shuttle, Medical Couple, The Beautiful Lady, A Light Kiss to Little Jasmine, Golden Years and Guardian of a Loved One won the third prize.

Meanwhile, the music composition contest jointly organized by Prince Kung’s Palace Museum, QQ Music and China Literature also awarded prizes. Three songs were awarded first, second and third prizes.
