IMD events foster cross-generation rapport

On May 14, on the occasion of the 47th International Museum Day, Prince Kung’s Palace Museum invited 26 multi-generation families consisting of grandparents, parents, and children from medical institutions, such as the Beijing Red Cross Blood Center, Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Beijing First Rehabilitation Hospital, and Peking University People's Hospital, to participate in the special events for International Museum Day.

A group of 26 families participated in a guided tour to learn about the architectural know-how and construction expertise that went into building the complex. They were introduced to the serene and harmonious living style that the Chinese have aspired to since ancient times.

Families also joined in the fu-culture-themed drama performance workshop where they shared memories associated with fu (blessing) and created performances to showcase their understandings of fu. It created a way for different generations to communicate with each other in the museum setting.

Chen Xiaowen, deputy director of Prince Kung’s Palace Museum, expressed that it was the museum’s hope to interpret the theme of International Museum Day through the practice of combining the abundant architectural resources and cultural heritage of the museum.

The events showcase the traditional architectural expertise and the principle of harmonious coexistence between human and nature that guided the constructional design and method. They also fostered stronger bonds of family affection between generations.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Prince Kung’s Palace Museum, and through the series of events for International Museum Day, it aims to create a vibrant cultural space and open the door to the museum to the public.
