On the International Day for Monuments and Sites, an exhibition entitled Safeguard this Home of Ours: Painting Memories - China Cultural Heritage Art Exhibition, was launched in Jiale Hall of Prince Kung's Palace Museum in Beijing on April 18.

According to a national survey, China has 108 million sets of movable cultural relics and 767,000 immovable cultural relics. Of the 56 immovable cultural relics from China included in the World Heritage List, there are 38 cultural heritage sites, 14 natural heritage sites and four mixed ones, both cultural and natural.

These UNESCO cultural heritage sites have embodied the glorious Chinese civilization and traditional Chinese culture and provided the country with great sources and strength in promoting exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations.

Since 2014, an exhibition has been held on the occasion of China's annual Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, which falls on June 11. It was added to the Overseas Chinese Cultural Resources Database in 2019 and has attracted overseas viewers from countries including South Korea, Malta, Egypt and Thailand during the past few years.

In 2020, the exhibition made it onto the China National Arts Fund's funding projects for communication, exchange and promotion through the concerted efforts of the Beijing Yuandao Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, Prince Kung's Palace Museum and China Cultural Relics News.

The latest theme exhibition in Prince Kung's Palace Museum brought together over 500 high-quality paintings which had been displayed in previous rounds of the exhibitions, and more than 60 newly created calligraphy works and paintings with the common theme of Mount Tai, Mount Huangshan, Mount Emei-Leshan Grand Buddha, and Mount Wuyi, all of which are UNESCO listed cultural and heritage sites in China.

These exhibited calligraphy works and paintings, divided into four groups, have demonstrated the charm of Chinese listed cultural and natural heritage sites, helped visitors learn more about their historical deposits, cultural essence and humanistic elements, expounded the spiritual connotations behind them, and strengthened the cultural confidence of the public.

The current exhibition, which is closed each Monday, will wrap up on June 20.

According to organizers, the exhibition will be held in the Art Museum of Fujian after its conclusion at Prince Kung's Palace Museum.
