Since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Yixing purple clay pottery production technology has been inherited in a specific manner by a large number of talented artisans. In 2006, it was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage items.
The exhibition displays 102 pieces of purple clay items created by 102 prominent craft artists in Yixing city, Jiangsu province, all of who are young and middle-aged craftsmen in the field of Yixing purple clay creation, reflecting the new outlook on this ancient craft.
